LAHORE – The fate of nearly 200,000 passengers, who rely on Lahore Metrobus each day, hangs in the balance as the transport service faces a possible shutdown from August 11, 2026, over an unresolved fuel supply issue.
VEDA, the private company operating the service, has issued a final notice to the Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA), informing the authorities that it may suspend all Lahore Metrobus operations from August 11.
Fuel Supply Dispute Triggers Crisis
According to reports, VEDA said it was unable to continue the operations due to ongoing disruption in fuel supplies. The company revealed that its financial resources had been exhausted and that it could no longer operate the service without a regular and uninterrupted supply of fuel.
VEDA also said the Punjab Masstransit Authority had been informed about the problem but the issue remained unresolved.
The company stated that operations would remain suspended unless fuel supplies were restored in accordance with a court order.
Punjab Govt Takes Decision Today
The Punjab government is likely to take a decision on the issue today. In case, the issue remains unresolved, the operations of the Lahore metro bus would be suspended from August 11.
Thousands Could Face Commuting Uncertainty
Lahore Metrobus is a major public transport service connecting Shahdara with Gajju Matta along a 27.2-kilometre route featuring 27 stations.
The service carries roughly 150,000 to 220,000 passengers daily, while official estimates can reach higher levels depending on seasonal demand and operational conditions.
