Rawalian Community Awareness Program organized a Thalassemia Prevention Seminar in CPC Hall of Rawalpindi Medical University’s New Teaching Block on May 31st, 2022 in collaboration with Punjab Thalassemia Prevention Program. In attendance wasDr. MehreenAli Khan from the Armed Forces Bone Marrow Transplant Center, CMH Rawalpindi who gave a thorough and eloquent presentation on why thalassemia prevention was so important.
Mr. Rana Muhammad Saeed, District Regional Coordinator for Punjab thalassemia Prevention & Control was also a guest of honour and talked about how important it was for couples to get screened before marriage to find out if they are thalassemia carriers. He also explained how consanguineous marriages have a higher risk of producing genetic disorders like thalassemia.
Chief Guest Vice Chancellor Proff. Dr. Muhammad Umar lauded the efforts of the organisers of RCAP and all the guests invited. Two children of Thalassemia major were invited to the seminar and were the stars of the occasion, simply because of the utter energy and hope they radiated and how full of life they were.
Students of MBBS and nursing students were in attendance along with university faculty, and all present agreed that it was a very beneficial and informative seminar.
