QUETTA – Eighteen construction workers were abducted after suspected militants attacked a road construction camp in Dukki district of Balochistan, a local private TV reported, citing the security sources.
The incident took place in the Nana Sahib Ziarat area of Dukki, where a private company was engaged in road construction.
According to the sources, armed militants attacked the camp and exchanged fire with security guards deployed there.
One guard was killed during the attack, while another sustained serious injuries, the sources said.
Following the assault, the attackers took 18 workers from the camp and fled the area. The workers were staying at the site as part of the road construction project.
Security forces launched a search operation in the surrounding areas following the incident in an effort to trace the kidnapped workers and locate those responsible for the attack.
Officials have yet to provide further details about the identities of the workers or the circumstances surrounding their abduction.
The attack has raised concerns over the security of workers involved in infrastructure projects in Balochistan, where construction and development activities have periodically been targeted by armed groups.
Security sources said efforts were under way to locate the missing workers and determine the attackers’ movements after they left the construction site.
The local authorities have not yet confirmed whether any demands have been made by the kidnappers or whether contact has been established with the abducted workers.
Dukki is located around 315 kilometres northeast of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, and is known for its mineral resources as well as ongoing infrastructure and development activity.
