A teachers’ union wrote a letter to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif regarding the issue of handing over government schools to the Punjab Education Foundation.
In the letter, the union mentioned that during all three of Nawaz Sharif’s tenures, special attention was given to the establishment of government educational institutions. As a result, children from poor families received free educational facilities, and the opening of new educational institutions provided employment to educated youth. The Union in its letter also said that during the previous government, no teachers were recruited in the government schools. However, during the PML-N’s tenure, millions of teachers were appointed in Punjab schools based on merit. Kashif Shehzad Chaudhry, a leader of the union, mentioned that there are more than 120,000 vacant positions in the Department of School Education. With the return of the PML-N government, the youth of Punjab renewed hope for employment.
He also wrote in the letter that the Punjab government is going to hand over government educational institutions to the private sector for free.
“We request Nawaz Sharif to play his role in saving these government educational institutions,” the union urged the PML-N president. The letter demanded that the vacant teaching positions in Punjab be filled.
On the other hand, Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat while reviewing the 100-day performance of the education department, claimed that the department exposed the fake enrollment numbers of the previous government and ensured NADRA verification for all future admissions.
“For the first time in history, 1.2 million students were enrolled after NADRA verification within a short period,” said the provincial minister. Rana Sikandar Hayat highlighted that within the first 100 days of the government.
