Punjab Minister for Human Rights & Minorities Affairs (HR&MA) Ejaz Alam Augustine chaired the seventh meeting of the Provincial Taskforce on Human Rights held in the Committee Room of the Civil Secretariat.

The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary Sardar Mahindra Pal Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Irum Bukhari, and representatives of the departments concerned.

Secretary HR&MA Nadeemur Rehman said that it was decided in the meeting held under the chairmanship of the one-man Suddle Commission to ensure implementation of the 2% quota set by the higher education commission in the public sector universities and added that a compliance report is sent to Human Rights dept regularly.

He added that the performance of the TT Cell of the HR&MA department has been acknowledged by the European Union while human rights training was underway in relevant departments.

Additional Chief Secretary Irum Bukhari said the 2% quota in the public sector through the higher education dept has to be implemented to ensure it in private universities as well.

A mechanism should be devised to prepare a detailed report on the performance of 36 districts’ committees for review while the secretaries concerned should ensure to attend meetings, she added.

Ejaz Alam Augustine said that implementation of the directives of the one-man commission was being ensured and asked the departments to present their HR-related performance in the next meeting.
