Defending champions England qualified for the Super 8s stage as Australia beat Scotland by five wickets in a crucial Group B match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Gros Islet.

After the result, both Scotland and England were tied with five points each but the latter advanced to the next stage due to a better net run-rate.

Chasing a challenging 181-run target for the victory, undefeated Australia crossed the finishing line with five wickets and two balls to spare. Travis Head was the highest scorer with 68 runs followed by player of the match Marcus Stoinis who made 59 of just 29 balls. Tim David contributed with 24 runs. Safyaan Sharif and Mark Watt bagged two wickets each and Brad Wheal had one.

Earlier, Scotland posted 180/5 in the allotted 20 overs. Brandon McMullen was the top scorer with 60 runs. Skipper Richie Berrington made 42, George Munsey 35, and Matthew Cross 18 runs. Glenn Maxwell bagged two wickets while Ashton Agar, Nathan Ellis, and Adam Zampa had one wicket each.
