The “World Culture Festival Karachi,” organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, is witnessing heightened public interest as it approaches its final week. On the 34th day of the festival, audiences were enthralled by the musical and interactive theater performance “Shame on You” by Switzerland’s Arnold & Komarov traveling theater. Directed by Ilja Komarov and Trixa Arnold, the cast features Amna Mawaz Khan, Habib Ahmed Afsar, Ilja Komarov, Imran Nafees, and Trixa Arnold. The performance delved into societal taboos often deemed inappropriate for discussion, presenting a nuanced exploration of shame’s dual nature. Presented in both Urdu and English, the drama illustrated how shame can serve as both a protective mechanism against embarrassment and a confining force that engenders fear, insecurity, and even aggression.
