ISLAMABAD – From entry level to high end, almost all cars are expected to become expensive after the Green Tax on petrol and HEV vehicles. Under the proposed 2025-26 budget, a 1% tax will be applied to the ex-factory price of petrol, diesel, and most hybrid vehicles.
Green Tax, aimed at encouraging environmentally friendly transport, will apply to all non-electric vehicles—except plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) that offer at least 50 km of electric-only range. As a result, traditional hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) that don’t meet this criterion will not be exempt.
For Suzuki Alto, prices range from Rs.2,827,000 for VXR Upgraded variant to Rs. 3,140,000 for VXL AGS Upgraded variant, with green tax adding between Rs. 28,270 to Rs. 31,400 respectively.

While fully electric vehicles and PHEVs meeting the 50 km electric-only range threshold are exempt, common hybrid vehicles such as the Toyota Corolla Cross, Haval H6 HEV, Jolion Hybrid, Kia Sportage Hybrid, and Hyundai Elantra Hybrid will fall under the tax due to their limited electric-only driving capability.
