In Thatta district, a concerning surge in mouth cancer cases has been reported, with health experts attributing the increase primarily to the consumption of harmful chewing substances like Gutka, Mawa, and Main Puri. Over the past five years, the district has witnessed a staggering rise, with 210 patients diagnosed with oral cancer.

Dr. Sham Lal, the head of the Dental Department at Civil Hospital Thatta, unveiled the distressing statistics, revealing that out of the 210 diagnosed patients, 165 are in the initial stages of cancer, while 50 have progressed to the third and final stage, experiencing severe pain and distress. Dr. Lal emphasized the pivotal role that Gutka and similar banned products play in triggering this debilitating disease.

“The situation demands immediate attention from authorities,” Dr. Lal asserted. “The consumption of Gutka, Mawa, Main Puri, and similar substances is the primary driver behind this surge in mouth cancer cases. We need swift action to eradicate the sale and use of these lethal products.”
