LONDON – Skywatchers are enjoying a spectacular view as the first supermoon of the year lit up the night sky. Known as “Wolf Moon,” the celestial event attracted astronomy enthusiasts to popular viewing spots across Pakistan.

According to Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), this supermoon marks the final event in a series that began in October 2025. The moon will appear almost completely illuminated at 99.8% and roughly 6 to 7% larger than a typical full moon.

“The Wolf Moon will be clearly visible throughout the night, with the best viewing around midnight,” Suparco officials said.

A supermoon occurs when the moon comes closer to Earth than usual, making it appear bigger and brighter in the sky. During Saturday’s event, the moon will be about 362,312 kilometers from Earth.

Experts noted that supermoons often happen in sequences of three or four, with this series now coming to an end. The next supermoon is expected in November 2026, with no third event planned for the year.

Astronomy fans and photographers made the most of the rare spectacle, capturing stunning images of the glowing moon as it dominated the night sky.
