Spread of dengue virus to be controlled soon

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid on Wednesday said that funds amounting to Rs9 billion have been sanctioned for Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) and its allied institutions, which will be utilised for development and treatment facilities.

Speaking to media after Syndicate meeting of Faisalabad Medical University here on Wednesday, the Health Minister said that a budget of Rs2 billion has been earmarked for purchase of medicines.

The minister was accompanied by FMU Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Ali Chaudhry, MPA Adil Pervez Gujjar and notables of the area.

The Health Minister said that besides essential medicines, other costly medicines will also be procured to facilitate patients as much as possible. Dr Yasmin Rashid said, “The dengue problem is resurfacing in Punjab and cases have started to increase.

However, by keeping our houses and offices clean, we can control the spread of the virus. Although situation in Faisalabad is under control, yet citizens must take necessary precautions. People must keep close watch on water storage sites.”

The Health Minister said that Corona cases were showing a downward trend in the fourth wave, however citizens must stay vigilant about SOPs.

She said all out efforts are being made to ensure that over 70% of the total population is vaccinated by the end of the current year. More than 40 million people have been vaccinated already.

The Health Minister said that all families will be provided health insurance cards and people who have not got their CNICs must get them immediately.

The Health Minister said that Oxygen generating plant was being installed at Allied Hospital Faisalabad which would resolve the Oxygen shortage issue. The Chemotherapy facility for patients will also be available in Faisalabad.

Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for HR&MA Ijaz Alam Augustine has said the provincial government has taken several steps to safeguard the rights of domestic women workers.

He was addressing a district convention of women workers’ alliance, which was organized by the Human Rights Department.

A documentary about women workers in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan and Sialkot was screened at the convention.
