Special training program was launched under the Special Sexual Offenses Investigation Unit (SSOIU) on the directives of IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon. This initiative focuses on enhancing the investigation of crimes against women, with a particular emphasis on the objectives and significance of the SSOIU in preventing such offenses. During the training session, all investigation officers were briefed on various aspects of crime investigation. The session featured insights from Dr. Susan Gurney, Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge, who participated in an online training segment. She shared valuable experiences and analyses related to the investigation of sexual offenses, including the use of modern techniques such as forensics, ballistics, and fiber analysis to improve case success rates. Dr. Gurney highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards of evidence and the chain of custody in investigations, addressing the challenges faced in cases of crimes against women. DIG Investigation Zulfiqar Ali Mehr stated that various training programs are being implemented to further enhance the quality of investigations across Sindh, emphasizing that the initial phase focuses on educating investigation officers on all facets and essential techniques of crime investigation. DIG Crime and Investigation Aamir Farooqi informed participants about the increase in conviction rates in courts based on effective investigations and solid case filings, supported by crime statistics. Fozia Tariq, an official from the social organization “Law is my Protector,” discussed timely responses to gender-based crimes by the Karachi police in various districts, as well as the legal and technical challenges faced and their resolutions. The training session also featured insights from former IG Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, Fozia Tariq, DIG Investigation, and DIG Crime and Investigation, who discussed various technical issues and judicial procedures. Participants, including Karachi’s SSP Investigation and investigation officers, raised questions regarding technical and legal matters related to investigations. It is noteworthy that IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the social organization “Law is my Protector,” under which services will be sought from international master trainers for investigative training.
