Speakers stress upon preventing climate change

Additional Deputy Commissioner One Muhammad Hanif Pitafi has said that one of the major reasons for the global warning about environmental pollution and climate change is the elimination of clutter he said this while addressing a seminar organised WWF over the 21st meeting of the District Coordination and Advisory Committee (DCC) at Darbar Hall Makli on Monday.

He said the meeting was aimed to prevent climate change and Promote deforestation and tree planting campaigns of prevailing time.

He said that it was also important to plant palm trees to protect the coastal and surrounding areas of Thatta district.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner further said that the planting of trees in the coastal areas by the WWF is a commendable process and it can address issues like environmental pollution and global warming as well as benefit the poor local people too.

The meeting was attended by WWF Conservation Manager Humaira Ayesha, Manager Marine Saad Islam, Divisional Forest Officer Abdul Qaddos, Assistant Director Fisheries Ghulam Murtaza Memon, Assistant Director Poultry and Research Dr Muhammad Nashid in addition to Deputy District Education Officer Primary Muhammad Siddique Palejo, officials from the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock, Information and other relevant departments and representatives of local NGOs in coastal areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Conservation Manager WWF Pakistan Humaira Ayesha said that our focus is on the local population centered on the Indus Delta as the population is facing the mostly problems.

He said that DCC Forum has proved to be very effective in tackling climate change and creating public awareness.

He said the three-year plan was aimed at “sustainable management of the mangrove ecosystem and alleviating the hardships of the people of the Indus Delta” with funding from the German Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the WWF.
