A Pakistan Army soldier was martyred during an intense exchange of fire with terrorists in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan tribal district, the military’s media affairs wing said on Sunday.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said the exchange of fire took place between terrorists and Pakistan Army troops during which the latter fought bravely and effectively engaged the terrorists.

However, Sepoy Shahzaib Imtiaz embraced martyrdom after having fought gallantly, the ISPR said, adding that he was 25-year-old and a resident of Kotli Sattian.

“Area clearance is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department of Balochistan on Sunday foiled terrorists’ bid to target security forces and the courts of the provincial capital through improvised explosive device explosions. In a statement, a CTD spokesperson said they had received a tip-off about the aforesaid attempts. He added that a motorcycle rider, when stopped, was found to be carrying an IED installed on his bike. The spokesperson further stated that the explosive device was later dismantled by the bomb disposal squad.

He further said that the motorcycle rider was identified as Nizamuddin alias Khalid, revealing that he and his accomplices had planned to launch attacks on the high court, sessions court, Frontier Corps and police.
