Snowfall, rain update for Murree, Galyat, other tourist destinations in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rains and snowfall for Murree, Galyat and other tourist sites in Pakistan on Sunday evening/night.

As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave is affecting most parts of Pakistan. It is likely to prevail during the next 24 hours.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfall over mountain is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, Galyat and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday evening/night.

On Monday and Tuesday, rain wind-thunderstorm with snowfall over mountain is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjacent areas. Freezing weather is expected at tourist destinations in the country.

Snowfall will likely affect transportation in Murree, Galyat, Malam Jabba, Kalam, Chitral, Dir, Hunza, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Garhi Dupatta, Nuzafarabad and Rawlakot. Tourists are advised to remain cautious.

Murree’s minimum temperature is expected to be between -03 to -01 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, freezing weather prevailed at all tourist sites in the country during the last 24 hours. Rain-thunderstorm with snow over mountains occurred in Murree, Galyat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir.

Kalam remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 09 C below freezing.

In Murree, mercury dropped 03 C below freezing. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 82 per cent.

Tourists flocked Murree, Galyat and other destinations in the country to witness significant snowfall. The massive influx of tourists caused a traffic mess in Murree and on the roads leading to Galyat and other tourist destinations.
