Smog/Fog conditions are likely to persist with increasing tendency over plain areas of Pakistan during the coming days.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan, which will likely persist during the coming days.
Under these meteorological conditions, smog/fog will likely persist with increasing intensity in the northeast and southern parts of Punjab. The similar weather conditions will also persist in upper Sindh and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Smog/fog will likely prevail in Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Multan, Khanewal, Layyah, Kot Addu and Bahawalpur. Similar conditions are predicted in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan and Dera Ismail Khan, and Sukkur and Rohri during morning and night hours.
Impacts: Smog/fog conditions may affect transportation. Travellers are advised to remain vigilant to avoid any untoward situation. Air quality may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. The public is advised to take precautions while going outdoors.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Extremely cold weather prevailed in hilly areas. Smog/fog prevailed in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.
Skardu remained the coldest place in Pakistan, where the mercury dropped 10°C below the freezing point. The minimum temperature in Leh was recorded at -09°C, in Gilgit at -06°C, in Ziarat at -04°C, and in Quetta, Kalat, Babusar, Gopis, and Astore at -03°C.
In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 03°C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 92 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 07°C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 80 per cent.
