In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under illegal house arrest, has strongly condemned the registration of two police cases against medical students under draconian law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), for cheering at Pakistan’s victory over India in a cricket match.
The Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said such a harsh measure will ruin the life and career of these young students forever.
“Settling scores and playing politics should not be done at the expense of the future of these young students and the rulers of the day should immediately withdraw the cases against these students and others concerned,” the statement said.
The Hurriyat forum hoped that better sense will prevail in this matter and the concerned authorities will not give in to the pettiness of revenge.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, in a statement condemned the thrashing of Kashmiri students in colleges in India by the goons of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and other extremist Hindu organizations.
He said a cricket match is played between two sides and people have a choice to support any of them. Everybody has his sympathy and has a right to support their team, he added.
Commenting on the slapping of draconian UAPA on medical students in Srinagar, Untoo said these steps are uncalled for and actually aimed at ruining the careers of Kashmiri students.
The Indian state is scared of the empowerment of Kashmiris and they are using these tactics to ruin their careers, he maintained—KMS
