The Specialized Investigation Unit (SIU) conducted a raid on the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Garden in Karachi, resulting in the arrest of several CTD officials implicated in the abduction of four citizens. Report suggest that CTD officials in Karachi were allegedly involved in the abduction and subsequent mistreatment of citizens. Following complaints of illegal detention and torture, the SIU took action and apprehended four officials from the CTD Garden premises.
According to DIG CTD Asif Ijaz Shaikh, the detained officials unlawfully held a citizen named Jasim and his companions, leading to the registration of a case at Tipu Sultan police station based on Jasim’s complaint. The FIR revealed disturbing details, alleging that Jasim and his friends were detained in the PECHS area and then transferred to the CTD Garden Cell, where they were subjected to torture and coerced into signing on a black paper. Jasim recounted his ordeal, claiming that a girl named Noor owed him Rs 63,000. Upon demanding payment, she orchestrated his detention along with his friend through a boy named Shoaib. Upon arrival at PECHS, they were detained and later physically assaulted by Noor before being released by CTD officials after paying Rs 400,000.
Identified as SI Rafaqat, ASI Liaquat, Jahanzeb, and Haris, the arrested CTD officials will face suspension from their duties following a police inquiry confirming their involvement in the incident. The case highlights the importance of accountability and the need for stringent measures against misconduct within law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of citizens’ rights and safety.
