Sindh government has announced an ambitious plan to support filmmakers, playwrights, and artists in creating impactful movies, dramas, and documentaries. The initiative, aimed at promoting local talent and developing narratives against terrorism and extremism, was discussed during the first meeting of the Content and Production Oversight Board, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. During the meeting, Minister Memon emphasized the need to encourage emerging filmmakers and writers by offering them financial and institutional support.

“This board is committed to fostering creativity, promoting democratic values, and shaping a healthier society through the arts,” he stated. The meeting, held in Karachi, was attended by Sindh Information Secretary Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, DG (PR) Muhammad Saleem Khan, Director of Films Hizbullah Memon, and Deputy Director Sarang Latif Chandio, alongside board members including Qazi Asad Abid, Warda Salim, Nimra Malik, Azan Sami Khan, and Hassan Asghar Naqvi. Minister Memon underlined that new production houses and writers creating innovative dramas and films will receive encouragement and financial backing, subject to board approval.

“This initiative will help showcase our local talent and bring fresh narratives to the forefront,” he added. DGPR Sindh, Saleem Khan, provided an overview of the board’s objectives, highlighting its focus on fostering creative excellence and establishing policy guidelines to drive these efforts.

Board member Qazi Asad Abid applauded the government’s swift action in operationalizing the board, emphasizing that its primary goal is to discover and promote new talent.

Production houses have been asked to submit outlines of their projects by next week, with a review scheduled during the board’s next meeting.
