Forty-eight officers and personnel of the Sindh Police, including six martyrs, were awarded the prestigious QPM and PPM medals at a ceremony held at the Saleem Wahidi Auditorium in Clifton. The event, graced by Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, celebrated the bravery and dedication of the province’s law enforcement personnel.

In his address, the Home Minister paid tribute to the martyrs and their families, acknowledging the sacrifices made by Sindh Police to ensure public safety under challenging circumstances. “Despite limited resources and difficult conditions, Sindh Police officers continue to uphold their duties with unwavering commitment,” Lanjar remarked, expressing pride in the force’s contributions to maintaining peace and security in the province. Lanjar highlighted the significant role of the police in combating crime and ensuring law and order in Karachi, a bustling city with a diverse population. He emphasized the importance of merit-based decision-making and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting police personnel.

He also praised the leadership of IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and the positive changes observed in police operations under his guidance. Referring to the sacrifices of national leaders like Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Lanjar stressed that the bravery and dedication of Sindh Police reflect the same spirit of selflessness.

He announced that President Asif Ali Zardari has instructed the Sindh Chief Minister to release a Martyr Fund for the injured personnel and the families of martyrs, with a proposal to assign a specific name to the fund. During the ceremony, family members of the six martyrs received medals on their behalf, while other officers were recognized for their achievements from 2014 to 2022. IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon proposed making the award ceremony an annual tradition to honor police personnel and their accomplishments. Memon also highlighted the significant decline in crime rates, including target killings, terrorism, and extortion, attributing this success to the sacrifices and hard work of the police. “Karachi’s vibrant nights and smooth traffic are a testament to the restoration of law and order,” he said, urging the Sindh government to introduce annual awards for police heroes akin to federal recognition. The Home Minister assured that the proposal for annual awards would be seriously considered, adding that the bravery and dedication of the police must be acknowledged not only through medals but also through substantial rewards. The event was attended by prominent officials, including Additional Chief Secretary for Home Iqbal Memon, Sindh government spokesperson Sumeta Syed, and senior police officers, alongside dignitaries from various departments.
