Calling former chief justices of Pakistan (CJPs) Iftikhar Chaudhry and SaqibNisar a ‘blot’ on the country’s judicial system, Senior Sindh Minister and PPP leader SharjeelMemon on Thursday said all facilities they both were presently enjoying must be withdrawn from them.

Talking to the media in Karachi, he said that the PPP was neither opposed to nor in favour of any particular individual. “The judicial murder of prime ministerZulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) was the murder of Pakistan’s development,” he said, adding the judiciary of those days did injustice to him.”

Sharjeel said that despite having grievances against the judiciary, the PPP never malign the institution. “However, all other parties did call the judiciary names.”

Still, he went on to say, if the institution was again maligned, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto would be the first person to defend it.

Referring to the apex court’s verdict in the Sunni Ittehad Council’s reserved seats case that benefitted the PTI, Sindh minister said the PPP was not in favour of such decisions in which a party was given what it had not even asked for.He claimed that parliament was supreme, and that no other institution in the country could dictate it.

Supporting setting up of a constitutional court, Sharjeel said it would only do good and no harm. “Millions of cases are pending. The new court will help clear the backlog.”

He claimed that the PPP had endured more hardships at the hands of military dictators than any other political party in the country. Referring to the PTI leaders and workers languishing in jails, he said they were not the real victims. “The real victims were those who received lashes on the streets,” he said while referring to the PPP workers.
