Sindh implements measles response plan amid outbreak

Secretary Health Sindh, Rehan Iqbal Baloch, led a comprehensive meeting with key stakeholders, including WHO, UNICEF, and others, to devise a robust strategy. The plan entails swift and targeted actions to mitigate the spread of the disease across the province. Launching an extensive vaccination initiative aimed at immunizing all eligible children promptly.

Enhanced Surveillance and Monitoring: Strengthening surveillance systems to promptly identify suspected measles cases and track outbreak patterns for effective prevention. Ensuring Vaccine Supply and Skilled Staff: Ensuring an adequate supply of vaccines, maintaining the cold chain, and deploying skilled vaccinators at facilities and outreach sites.

Fostering collaboration among District Health Officers (DHOs) and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination with the Provincial EPI office. Improving coordination with the media to disseminate timely and accurate information regarding outbreak response efforts.

The Health Department affirms its unwavering commitment to containing the outbreak and safeguarding public health. Recognizing the crucial role of the media, they emphasize collective responsibility and urge all stakeholders to actively participate in raising awareness and supporting vaccination efforts. In light of reports of measles-related deaths in District Kamber Shahdadkot, Project Director EPI Sindh, Dr. M. Naeem, has initiated a thorough investigation. Initial findings revealed challenges in accessing qualified healthcare and highlighted the importance of community awareness on vaccination.

Expressing condolences, Secretary Health Sindh, Rehan Baloch, emphasized the urgency of preventive measures and urged communities to cooperate with vaccination campaigns. He reassured the public of free vaccination services and urged parents to ensure their children receive timely immunization.
