The Sindh government has decided to launch a 120 million US$ project in the agricultural sector with the help of the World Bank.
The World Bank delegation met with Manzoor Hussain Wassan Advisor to CM for Agriculture at Wassan House Karachi. A delegation from the World Bank Mission led by Greg Browder including Secretary Agriculture, DGs and other officers participated.
During meeting discussed agricultural projects especially SWAT project. Besides, agricultural machinery, watercourses additional lining, dranaige, Pulses, oilseed crops and horticulture crops were also discussed.
In the meeting, the World Bank delegation agreed to work with the Sindh government on the agricultural sector. While the officials briefed the World Bank delegation on the agricultural projects being undertaken in collaboration with the WB.
On this occasion Agriculture Advisor Manzoor Hussain Wassan said that 120 million US$ project is going to be started in agriculture sector with the help of World Bank, through this project water reservoir were saved and wastage of water would be zero percent. As the Sindh province is facing severe water shortage.
Manzoor Wassan said that at present demand for drip irrigation is also
increasing in Sindh, drip irrigation system has been successful in many areas, Sindh government is providing solar tube wells, drip irrigation on subsidy, It has been agreed to work together on the Sindh Water Agriculture Transformation (SWAT) project.
The agriculture advisor further said that due to water scarcity, farmers of Sindh are giving more priority to drip irrigation, have started schemes like solar tube, farmers are being given subsidy on agricultural machinery.
