Sindh Minister for Energy, Planning, and Development, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, affirmed that the provincial government is dedicated to providing affordable and clean electricity to the people of Sindh. Addressing a seminar on the “Energy Crisis,” organized by Pakistan Business Arena at a local hotel, Shah outlined the government’s proactive measures to tackle the energy crisis in line with the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah highlighted several ongoing projects that are crucial to resolving the energy crisis, including solar parks, wind corridors, and coal-based power plants.

He pointed out that Thar coal currently generates the cheapest electricity, contributing 2,740 megawatts to the national grid, benefiting the entire country. Shah mentioned that the solar park project, which is set to benefit Karachi, will supply electricity directly to K-Electric. Additionally, the Nooriabad Wind Corridor, producing 100 megawatts of power, is already supplying electricity to K-Electric through the Sindh Transmission Dispatch Company (STDC). Shah elaborated on the activation of the Sindh Electricity Procurement Regulatory Authority (SEPRA), which will play a key role in determining tariffs for solar and coal energy.

He assured that electricity from the solar park will be distributed to consumers, with those using between 100 and 200 units benefiting significantly from reduced costs. Encouraging both local and foreign investment, Shah highlighted the increasing interest in alternative energy projects. He urged local investors to collaborate with Chinese partners, leveraging favorable conditions created by global restrictions. Shah emphasized the strong government support available for such initiatives.

The Sindh government also plans to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the province. This initiative, to be powered by solar energy, will be developed under a public-private partnership model. The goal is to set up charging points every 40 kilometers, facilitating intercity travel and reducing fuel costs for residents.
