Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced on Monday that Sindh has formally challenged the Indus River System Authority’s (IRSA) decision regarding canals in the Council of Common Interests (CCI). Speaking to the media, he emphasized that he has written to the planning minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, urging the withdrawal of the controversial decision related to six new canals from the Indus River. Addressing questions about any underlying conditions related to the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, Shah categorically denied such claims. “The People’s Party will not support anything that undermines the interests and rights of the people,” he asserted. The Chief Minister referenced the historical significance of the Charter of Democracy signed by Benazir Bhutto, highlighting that “Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has achieved this success after 18 years.”
Additionally, he critiqued the caretaker government, suggesting it has not been beneficial, and called for the removal of the relevant constitutional clause. When questioned about the 27th amendment, CM Shah remarked, “I only learned about it from the media.”
