Sindh authorities unite to combat street crimes

Sindh authorities have joined forces, with the police taking decisive measures and ministers issuing directives to enhance law enforcement. Led by Home Minister Sindh, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, a significant meeting convened to address the prevailing law and order situation in the province. Notable attendees included a delegation of 11 MQM members, led by Opposition Leader Ali Khursheed, along with Karachi’s Mayor MurtazaWahab, and Provincial Ministers Jam Khan Shoro and Dost Ali Rahmon. During the meeting, IGP Sindh, GhulamNabiMemon, provided a comprehensive briefing on police actions and the current state of law and order.

He presented comparative data on street crimes, murders, and robberies between 2023 and 2024, highlighting the effectiveness of Sindh Police and CPLC initiatives. IGP Sindh also shed light on instances of mobile phone and vehicle thefts, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and community engagement in curbing such crimes.

Notably, he underscored the significant progress made in combating criminal activities, citing a surge in police encounters resulting in the neutralization of criminal elements. Additionally, the meeting discussed the registration of FIRs and measures to protect witnesses, crucial for building robust legal cases against offenders. Minister Lanjar emphasized the importance of adherence to higher authority directives and stressed the necessity of witness protection measures, including online platforms. Furthermore, the meeting delved into the modernization of law enforcement infrastructure, including the upgrade of Madadgar 15 centers and the installation of advanced surveillance systems at toll plazas across the province.

The deployment of Shaheen Force patrols and the formation of specialized investigation units underscored the commitment to proactive crime prevention. Minister Lanjar reiterated the government’s resolve to hold accountable those who fail to fulfill their duties, particularly SHOs tasked with maintaining law and order. The concerted efforts of Sindh authorities aim to create a safer environment for all citizens, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and proactive policing in achieving this goal.
