KARACHI – Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to democratic values, assuring that Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi would be provided full security and freedom to carry out political and official activities during his visit to the province.
Sharjeel Memon said a representative of the Sindh government would welcome Afridi at the airport. He emphasized that the government would also provide grounds for rallies or public events if required, ensuring that no activity violates the law or causes inconvenience to the public.
He expressed these words while talking to the media on Friday.
Memon highlighted that while ideological and political differences exist between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), democratic societies tolerate criticism and differing opinions. He said PTI has the right to criticize, and the PPP has the right to respond politically. “During Imran Khan’s tenure, criticism on talk shows often led to NAB notices and arrests the next day. In Sindh, such practices will not occur, and criticism will be addressed within political ethics,” he added.
The senior minister also criticized PTI leader Imran Khan’s stance on the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), calling his pro-Taliban narrative “deeply concerning.” He said, “Imran Khan’s suggestion to open Taliban offices is alarming, given that these terrorists have targeted innocent civilians and schoolchildren in Pakistan. PTI has consistently shown leniency toward them, which the PPP strongly disagrees with.”
Memon added that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has referred to Khan as “Taliban Khan” because his policies have historically favored the extremist elements. “These elements have endangered lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police stations close after sunset, creating an unofficial curfew. The KP government’s responsibility is to protect citizens, not facilitate forces that terrorize the public,” he said.
The minister stressed that the Sindh government is ready to provide all necessary facilities for Afridi’s visit while ensuring public safety and adherence to the law.
