DUBAI – The UAE has announced a precautionary recall of certain Nestlé infant formula products, including NAN Optipro 1, due to potential health risks.
This action, confirmed by the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) earlier this week, follows similar recalls issued by several countries worldwide after concerns were raised about contamination.
The affected products include NAN Comfort 1, NAN Optipro 1, NAN Supreme Pro 1, 2, and 3, Isomil Ultima 1, 2, and 3, as well as Alfamino.
The recall comes after a batch of raw ingredients used in the manufacturing of these formulas was found to be contaminated with “Bacillus cereus”, a bacteria capable of producing a toxin known as cereulide, which can pose health risks, especially to infants.
Though the recall was initiated as a voluntary and precautionary measure, it follows a global expansion of Nestlé’s recall efforts.
In addition to the UAE, health authorities in 37 countries, including several in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, have also issued warnings about the affected products. This includes nations like Brazil, China, South Africa, and many across Europe.
The UAE’s action aligns with similar recalls in neighboring Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar, to ensure consumer safety.
