Committee formed to probe derailment

A special train boarding Sikh pilgrims was derailed near ShorKot Cantt in Tob Tek Singh on Saturday morning. However, none of the passengers got hurt in the incident.

Nine bogies of the special train, going to Nankana Sahib from Karachi, were derailed. The train was brought from Faisalabad. The accident took place between Pir Mahal and Shorkot.

Most of the passengers were adjusted in the cars attached to the engine and were sent to Nankana at 9.55 am. The authorities also made arrangements to transport the remaining passengers as a new train was sent to Shorkot for this purpose.

Pakistan Railways’ Devisional Superintendent along with his staff rushed to the accident place.

meanwhile, Pakistan Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has constituted an inquiry committee to know the causes and fix the responsibilities of negligence in the derailment of Sikh special train.

Pakistan Railways sources said on Saturday the investigation committee would comprise chief operating officer safety, chief engineer open lines and chief mechanical engineer carriage which will present its initial report within three days.
