Significant rains predicted in Peshawar, most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR – Rain-wind/thunderstorms are predicted in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday night and the next 3-4 days.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave will likely enter western parts of the country on Wednesday. It will likely grip most upper parts of the country on Thursday.

Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and Khurram on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, rain wind-thunderstorms are likely in Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad and Khurram.

From April 25 to April 29, rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy falls and snowfall over high mountains are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram with occasional gaps.

Heavy rainfall may generate flash flood in local nullahs/streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Manshera and Kohistan on 27th and 28th April. Landslides are likely in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 27th to 29th April. Windstorm/hailstorm and lightning may affect human life, standing crops, loose structures like electric poles and solar panels during the period. Farmers are advised to manage their crops keeping in view the weather conditions. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary traveling particularly from 26h to 29th April. Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.
