Shifa hospital announces new lung screening program

Shifa International Hospital on Monday announced the launch of its new lung screening program.

The program is designed to detect lung cancer at an early stage which can eventually lead to a complete cure for cancer. Lung cancer when detected early is curable therefore the focus of this screening program is to detect it at an early stage.

According to Globocan, WHO data 2020, Lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death, with an estimated 1.8 million deaths (18%),

The lung screening program will offer low-dose CT scans, which are effective for detecting lung cancer at an early stage. The scans are painless, non-invasive, and can be completed in just a few minutes. In addition to screening, the program will provide patients with access to a team of experienced physicians and other healthcare professionals who specialize in the treatment of lung cancer and other lung diseases. “We are excited to offer this new program to our community,” said Dr. Zeshan Bin Ishtiaque, Chief Medical Officer at Shifa. “Early detection is critical in the fight against lung cancer, and we believe that our lung screening program will help save lives by identifying potential health issues at an early stage.”

The lung screening program is open to all individuals who are at high risk for developing lung cancer, including smokers and former smokers. Dr. Sohail Naseem, Director of the Lung Cancer Screening Program at Shifa, highlighted the importance of the program. Dr. Atif Rana, Consultant Radiologist, discussed the role of radiology in the early detection of lung cancer, and Dr. MurtazaKazmi, Pulmonologist at Shifa, emphasized the need to reduce the burden of cancer and improve survival with lung cancer.
