Shibli urges universities to produce indigenous technology for development

Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Syed Shibli Faraz visited the Islamabad Campus of COMSATS University on Monday.

After a tour of the Labs of the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Sciences and CERN Data Center and the Junaid Zaidi Central Library, the Minister was briefed about the role of CUI in the overall S&T landscape of Pakistan.

Syed Shibli Faraz while addressing the senior management of CUI lauded the immense efforts of the leadership and faculty of CUI for achieving growth and excellence in various fields of Science and Technology.

He said that it was the vision of the Prime Minister to see leading Pakistani universities at the forefront of product innovation and indigenous technology development to deliver to socio-economic development.

In the long-run COMSATS University’s success in becoming an elite center of learning will be rooted in upholding of merit policy and initiatives that drive commercialization of scientific knowledge from basic science research, particularly in areas like Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Material Sciences.

The Minister urged COMSATS University to reach out to reputed international research establishments and bring local education and research standards at par with leading centers.

He also said that the varsity’s base of over 69,000 Alumni was a rich resource to support the initiatives of the university in industry engagement and job placements.
