The Sindh High Court (SHC) has mandated the adoption of modern technology and the dissemination of photos on social media platforms in efforts to locate missing individuals. The directive was issued by a two-member bench, with Justice NimatullahPhalphoto presiding over petitions related to the recovery of missing persons.
During the hearing, Justice NimatullahPhalphoto questioned the investigating officer about the measures taken to trace the missing persons. The officer reported that 21 Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) and 16 provincial task force meetings had been conducted to address the issue.Despite these efforts, family members expressed their distress, citing the case of Muhammad Zubair who went missing from Baghdadi in 2014, with no progress in locating him to date. Offering reassurance, Justice NimatullahPhalphoto stated, “You people should not worry; we assure you that you will get justice.”
Another family reported the disappearance of HasanDilawar from Landhi in 2015, emphasizing the lack of information about his whereabouts. The court inquired about the number of JITs conducted, to which the investigating officer responded that 30 JITs and 12 provincial task force meetings had taken place.
In a similar case, the family of SaqibAfridi, missing since 2015, sought answers from the investigating officer. The court pressed for details on the steps taken to recover the missing citizen. The judiciary’s move to leverage modern technology and social media in missing persons cases aims to enhance public awareness and expedite the search process.
