KARACHI – The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed the relevant officials to allow access to Acting Governor Sindh Awais Qadir Shah to Governor House officers.
“The acting governor should be given access to the residential and other offices at the governor house,” remarked the SHC judge while hearing a plea moved by Awais Qadir Shah against closure of the Sindh Governor House.
The court also directed the principal secretary to ensure access of the acting governor.
Earlier, Acting Governor of Sindh Awais Qadir Shah announced that he would take legal action against former governor Kamran Tessori for allegedly taking the keys of the Governor House offices with him after leaving office.
“A high-level security meeting regarding Muharram had been scheduled at the Governor House. However, the meeting was disrupted when the staff informed him that the keys to the Governor House offices were missing and had reportedly been taken by Tessori,” said Sindh Acting Governor Awais Shah.
He said, “This is a constitutional office, not anyone’s personal lounge. Such behaviour is unbecoming of someone who has held a constitutional position,”.
The acting governor also expressed his disappointment.
Shah said said that senior police officials had already reached the Governor House and the federal interior minister was also en route from Islamabad to attend the meeting. “If the meeting cannot be held today due to this issue, I will take the matter to court,” he warned.
The acting governor further alleged that Kamran Tessori had taken the office keys abroad on multiple occasions during his tenure. “If those sitting on constitutional positions behave in this manner, what message does it send to others? Such a mindset is regrettable,” Shah added.
