LAHORE – Pakistani cricketer Shan Masood takes on new role as Director of International Cricket Operations PCricket Board (PCB) alongside Test captaincy.
The announcement was made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during special dinner hosted in Islamabad in honor of the Pakistan and South Africa cricket teams.
The event was attended by top officials and dignitaries, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who joined the gathering to appreciate both teams’ contributions to international cricket.
In his new position, Masood will oversee the organization of home and international series for the senior Pakistan team, the Shaheens (A team), and the U19 squad. He will also be responsible for implementing central contracts, ensuring that players’ rights and obligations are managed efficiently and transparently.
His role extends to preparations for ICC meetings, where strategic decisions about the country’s cricketing future are discussed. Additionally, he will manage the logistics operations budget, planning and coordinating travel, accommodations, and match arrangements for teams traveling abroad or hosting international opponents.
The appointment underscores the PCB’s trust in Masood’s leadership skills and cricketing acumen, marking a significant step in involving active players in strategic cricket administration.
Shan was made captain of Pakistan’s Test team in late 2023. The son of a sports-loving banker, he grew up in Karachi, studied in the UK, and honed his skills in both domestic and county cricket. He made his Test debut in 2013, scored his first century in 2015, and now has six Test centuries to his name. His leadership began with challenges, including a 3–0 series loss in Australia, but he soon led Pakistan to a historic 2–1 win against England, scoring his fifth Test century and surpassing 2,000 Test runs.
Known for his calm demeanor, technical skill, and resilience, Shan represents a new era of discipline and professionalism in Pakistani cricket, proving that perseverance and talent can turn early struggles into national triumph.
