ISLAMOPHOBIA has reached a sinister new level in the European countries which indeed poses a grave threat to global peace and security. The sentiments of Muslims have once again been hurt with the burning of their holy book Quran in Norway and Sweden. The shameless acts have triggered unrest and clashes in both the Scandinavian countries. The situation could further aggravate if such profane acts were continued to hurt the sentiments of Muslims.
Sweden and Norway are the countries that always boast of human rights and religious freedom but today the situation has reached the point where their people have started deliberate campaigns against Islam and their holy personalities. These provocative acts are a heavy blow to European values and the culture of coexistence. The fact of the matter is that the Muslims living in Europe have systematically been exposed to discriminatory and racist attitude in their daily lives. Mosques have been targeted all across Europe, resulting in deaths and injuring dozens. The year 2019 distinguished itself greatly by cold and ruthless Islamophobic terror attacks in places such as New Zealand’s Christchurch, Germany, the U.K., France and Norway. Then these latest despicable acts against our holy book once again reveal the extent of the threat Muslims face in Europe. Mainstream media and private institutions in European countries are also responsible for anti-Muslim feelings as they continuously spread disinformation that harms the Muslim community. All this contradicts with global efforts to combat extremism and incitement to hatred based on religion and faith. Time has come to check such blasphemous acts and the Muslim rulers whilst rising above their economic and political expediency will have to forcefully raise voice against the Islamophobia. If holocaust denial can be criminalized in Europe then why not the blasphemous acts? The Muslim countries should get together and frame a joint policy to get an international law passed against blasphemy.
