Journalism will be poorer in Pakistan as veterancorrespondent and academic Shahida Qazi died here on Saturday. She was79.She served as chairperson of Karachi University’s Mass Communication Department and was considered country’s first woman correspondent. Shahida Qazi joined prestigious Dawn in 1966 as a reporter. After atwo-year stint, she joined the Pakistan Television (PTV) where she roseto the position of first woman news editor. She served the stateorganisation for two decades.
After her retirement as a professor, she continued teaching atuniversities including Karachi’s Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU).She quit job during Covid pandemic.The veteran journalist had been ailing and undergoing treatment at Karachi’s Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital.
