LAHORE- Former Pakistan Captain and star all-rounder Shahid Afridi raised concerns regarding the leadership of incumbent Pakisan skipper Babar Azam.

However, Afridi did not adopt any confrontational stance.

Afridi’s remarks came in the wake of Pakistan’s defeat to Afghanistan and during a match discussion about inadequate fielding.

He former captain mentioned that when a player stood on the boundary line but is not fully engaged in the game, attempted to hide, and embraced a negative mindset, it could have adverse consequences. According to Afridi, it gave the impression that the team is waiting for miracles, but miracles typically occur with those who have the determination to fight.

Afridi also emphasized the crucial role of a captain in motivating and leading the team. He stated, “The captain’s duty is to keep the fielders in the front so that they can apply pressure on the opposing team,”.

He further noted that a captain is the linchpin of the team, as their dedication and efforts can significantly influence the team’s dynamics. If the captain wholeheartedly participates in the game, inspires the players after every over, and displays a high level of commitment, it can set a positive example for the entire team.

Afridi’s sentiments reflect the importance of strong and inspiring leadership within the realm of cricket, drawing from his own experiences and those of legendary cricketers like Inzamam-ul-Haq.

He recalled how Inzamam-ul-Haq’s proactive leadership, which included diving efforts as a captain, used to motivate the team and left a lasting impact on their performance, contrasting it with the embarrassment felt when some team members failed to exhibit the same level of dedication.
