LAHORE – Former Pakistan Captain Shahid Afridi wanted his son-in-law Shaheen Shah Afridi to focus on cricket.  Shahid Afridi criticized his own and others’ removal as captains.

“Shaheen Afridi should focus on his cricket,” said Shahid Afridi.

The former captain earlier had suggested the name of Mohammad Rizwan as the captain.

A local private TV reported that Shahid Afridi discouraged his own son in law from taking on captaincy responsibilities. Shahid had highlighted the challenges faced by him and many other captains.

He also revealed that he also asked him not to accept captaincy of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars.

The reaction came after the PCB replaced Shaheen by Babar Azam once again as captain for T20I s and ODIs ahead of the upcoming five-match series against Kiwis. The series is due to start from April 18.

The PCB had termed the decision as “strategic move” aimed at prioritizing player well-being and performance.

Shaheen was appointed as the team’s T20 captain after Babar’s resignation from the position last November, following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2023 Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.
