The Sindh Food Authority’s Vigilance team carried out a significant raid on a large spice manufacturing facility in Surjani Town, confiscating 10,000 kilograms of substandard and hazardous spices. A spokesperson for the Sindh Food Authority reported that more than 400 bags of contaminated spices were discovered during the inspection, revealing serious breaches of hygiene and food safety regulations. Food Safety Officer Mehboob Ali Bhatti led the inspection, thoroughly examining different sections of the factory. During this assessment, it was found that spices were tainted with insects, cone flour, and choker, prompting immediate action to seal the facility.

The inspection also uncovered alarming sanitary conditions, including the presence of cockroaches, cats, and spider webs in the production area. The factory was fined Rs. 400,000 for selling unsafe and substandard products. The Sindh Food Authority promptly sealed the factory and coordinated with the Solid Waste Management Department to ensure the safe disposal of all hazardous products. The spokesperson reaffirmed the Authority’s dedication to enforcing stringent measures across Karachi to guarantee that only safe and high-quality food reaches consumers, emphasizing their commitment to food safety and public health.
