Sindh Food Authority celebrated World Food Day 2024 in collaboration with university students, food business representatives, NGOs, government bodies, and the farming community. The theme, “Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future,” emphasized the importance of access to adequate, nutritious, and safe food for all citizens. Director General of the Sindh Food Authority, Muzamil Hussain Halepoto, highlighted that ensuring food security and combating hunger are key to improving quality of life and driving sustainable development.
He shared that the authority is active across all districts of Sindh, focusing on food safety, healthy eating habits, and hygiene through public awareness campaigns. He stressed the need for all food businesses to be licensed under the Sindh Food Authority Act and warned that non-compliance would result in heavy fines.
The authority has conducted over 9,000 inspections in the past month, focusing on cracking down on adulterated milk and enforcing hygiene standards. Over 5,000 licenses were issued to food operators this month.
“There is zero tolerance for food adulteration and expired or substandard products,” Halepoto stated, adding that severe penalties are being imposed for violations. The event aimed to strengthen collaboration in ensuring food safety and fostering a healthier future for all.
