Several students were injured on Friday when two groups clashed on the Punjab University’s (PU) new campus on Thursday.
Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz taking notice of the incident has sought report on the fight between two groups of students. According to reports, the clash had erupted between the students of Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) and Baloch, Seraiki and Pukhtun councils when the former thrashed two Baloch council activists in a bus coming from the old campus.
The Baloch, Seraiki and Pukhtun councils’ activists could not restrain themselves, and gathered on the new campus and thrashed the IJT activists to avenge the humiliation of their colleagues at the hands of the latter in the bus.
The IJT activists, who were holding a seminar on the struggle of Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik, reached the spot in large numbers and allegedly started pelting their rivals with stones.
Both sides continued throwing stones at each other; resulting in injuries to several students. The groups also resorted to firing. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital where some of them were said to be critical.
