A Superintendent of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has been taken into police protective custody for investigation in the suicide case of a lady constable of Islamabad Police.
The SP’s staff has also been made part of the investigation.
According to senior police sources, the SP ITP Arif Shah has been suspended and is facing investigation whether he was involved in the ‘suicide’ of the lady police constable.
The sources further said the lady police constable wanted to marry Arif Shah’s son but his son’s marriage is scheduled somewhere else in next few days.
Interestingly, the sources said both Arif Shah and the deceased lady constable belonged to the same city of Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
A day after recovery of the dead body of 20-year-old lady constable from the house of the superintendent of traffic police, the police on Sunday decided to register a murder case against unidentified persons.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered by SHO of Abpara Police Station, the police said on Monday.
During the initial probe, it surfaced that lady constable Iqra, who was posted in Police Lines HQ, visited the residence of SP Arif Hussain Shah on Friday, March 19, at 11am and later at the same house she died under mysterious circumstances.
According to Polyclinic staff, a DSP rank officer brought Iqra to the hospital but by the time she was brought she had already died.
On the other hand, the SP of ITP continued to deny any involvement in the death of the lady police constable. According to him, he considered Iqra as his daughter and had nothing to do with her suicide/murder.
The sources further said that it was Arif Shah who had got her inducted in the police force.
When asked if the family of the deceased lady constable Iqra, was willing to pursue the case, the senior police officer replied, “The family was in a state of shock and it is Islamabad IGP Ahsan Younas who had constituted a committee of senior officers of the police to probe the matter and bring the culprit(s) to the book.
Meanwhile, the special inquiry committee, formed by the Inspector General of Police Islamabad Muhammad Ahsan Younas, is investigating the case and would present its report on Tuesday (today).
