KARACHI – In a bid to further streamline the issuance of national identity cards (NICs), NADRA rolled out innovative Kiosks in the port city of Karachi.

Amid the recent steps for upgradation, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) introduced self-service kiosks, revolutionizing the process of renewing expired or reissuing lost smart national identity cards (NICs).

These innovative kiosks will allow applicants to complete the entire process independently, without waiting in long queues. These kiosks will be installed at NADRA’s mega centres, with plans to expand to high-traffic locations such as airports, railway stations, and shopping malls across the metropolis.

The self-service kiosks were recently showcased at NADRA’s stall during the IDEAS Exhibition at Karachi’s Expo Centre. The technology will allow users to input their NIC details, complete biometric verification, take their photos, and even record thumb impressions—all without requiring any staff assistance.

Once the process is complete, users will receive a QR code for payment, which can be settled via any online payment mode.

These kiosks are currently in trial phase, and after successful trials, it will be deployed at Karachi’s Mega Centres before being expanded to other locations. In the next phase, NADRA plans to integrate a point-of-sale (POS) system to allow payments via debit or credit cards.

This move is expected to significantly streamline the NIC renewal process, providing greater convenience to citizens while reducing wait times and dependency on staff assistance.
