PESHAWAR – Security forces on Sunday killed Surat Gul aka Saif Ullah of Daesh in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On the reports of the presence of a high-profile terrorist, security forces carried out a raid in the tribal district.

As per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intense fire exchange occurred during the operation in which the ring leader of the terrorist outfit was killed.

“Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the killed terrorist commander, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities including target killing of innocent civilians as well as extortion and was highly wanted by the law enforcement agencies”, ISPR statement reads.

The Media wing of the military added that a sanitisation operation was being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists in the area. Locals appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism, the ISPR stated.

Pakistan has witnessed an increase in attacks in its tribal districts bordering Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power in 2021.

Afghanistan has been accused of sheltering allied militants such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) allowing them to strike with impunity.

The most affected areas include Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur, and Tank while Dera Ismail Khan, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan are included in the terror-affected areas.
