Four people lost their lives while 14 inured in rain related incidents on Thursday as the second spell of Monsoon hit the city with heavy downpour in different parts of the city. On the other hand, 14 people were buried under the rubble due to the collapse of the wall of Mozang Hospital due to heavy rain.
The rain continues in different areas of the provincial capital including Lakshmi Chowk, Abbott Road, Empress Road, Railway Station and Shiranwala Gate, Sabzazar, Dholanwal, Wahadat Road, Mustafa Town, Shahdara, Nishtar Town, Achhra, Iqbal Town. Clouds were also raining in Mughalpura, Baghbanpura, Bhatigate, Johar Town, Gulshan Ravi, Cordoba Chowk, Liberty.
The injured after given the first aid at Mozang hospital were shifted to Ganga Ram Hospital for further treatment.
On the other hand, the transmission system was badly affected due to heavy rain in Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region, more than 120 feeders of Lesco have tripped due to the rain, several areas of the city have lost electricity due to tripped feeders and other technical faults.
It is pertinent to mention here that till the filing of this news the Lesco system was affected by the strong wind and rain of the previous day.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the first monsoon rains are expected to continue from July 3 to 8.
Spokesperson NDMA said that during monsoon, heavy rains with wind and storm are expected in different parts of the country, the rains may cause landslides in the hilly areas and flooding in the lowlands. In view of possible weather conditions, NDMA has issued instructions to all concerned institutions, also ordered the concerned institutions to ensure the presence of emergency machinery and personnel. Livestock owners have been advised to take necessary precautions in view of the weather conditions, and the concerned authorities should issue advance notice to the residents of flood-prone areas.
