Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has said the latest report of the State Bank of Pakistan on inflation is the slap in the face of the PTI government.
While talking to different delegations at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said that the SBP report, Pakistan witnessed highest inflation in the world during 2020, exposed the claims of the government about providing relief to the common man.
Senator Siraj said the rulers had so far not taken any serious step to address the issue of steep rise in the prices of food items and unemployment rather they were set to put additional burden in shape of heavy taxes on the poor in upcoming budget.
He asked Islamabad not to fully surrender before the dictation of the IMF. The government, he added, should develop policies in the wider interest of the nation.
He said the ministries and government departments should curtail non-developmental expenses and there was a dire need to utilize maximum resources on health and education sectors. The policymakers, he said, should develop a plan to address the situation which emerged after the outbreak of cronavirus.
The JI chief said he believed the country could not be put on the path of development without addressing the chronic issue of the corruption.
The current drive, he said, of conducting selective accountability was under serious questions and there was a need to introduce a powerful and independent system of accountability.
The National Accountability Bureau, he stressed, should open the 150 files of mega corruption scandal and also proceed against all those people who were named in Panama Papers. He demanded the prime minister fulfill his promise to bring back the money stashed in foreign banks by corrupt elite of the country.
He asked Islamabad not to fully surrender before the dictation of the IMF. The government, he added, should develop policies in the wider interest of the nation.
