RIYADH – Saudi Arabian government officially announced sighting of the ZilHajj moon on Tuesday evening, marking starting of final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

With sighting of crescent, the sacred month will start from May 28 Wednesday. In accordance with Islamic calendar, Day of Arafah will fall on Thursday, June 5 2025. June 6, 7, 8 will be celebration of Eid Al Adha, one of the most significant religious festivals observed by Muslims around the world.

The festival is marked by special prayers, charitable giving, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock such as sheep, goats, cows, or camels. The meat from the sacrifice is typically distributed in three parts — one for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for those in need — reinforcing themes of faith, compassion, and community.

Eid Al Adha is celebrated by Muslims worldwide and coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, bringing millions of worshippers together in one of the largest religious gatherings globally.

Eid Al Adha also known as Bakra Eid marks Hazrat Ibrahim’s profound obedience to God. As per Islamic tradition, Ibrahim A.S was prepared to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s will. However, before the act could be carried out, God provided a ram to be sacrificed in the child’s place.
