Batting legend Inzamamul Haq believes former skipper Sarfraz Ahmed should have refused the demoted central contract saying the wicketkeeper-batsman must have performed first and then asked for it according to his caliber.
The 50-year-old said Sarfraz should not have accepted the ‘B’ category central contract offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“PCB should have either put Sarfaraz in ‘A’ category or have not offered him the contract at all,” he said in a video on his YouTube channel as quoted by cricketpakistan.com.pk.
“I have a small complaint with Sarfaraz as well. You should think about your stature yourself. Sarfraz should have refused the central contract. He should have performed first and then should have asked the board to give him a contract that suits his caliber,” he said.
Sarfaraz was named in the 29-member squad for the upcoming tour of England which includes three Tests and as many Twenty20s to be played in August-September.
Inzamam cautioned the Pakistan team management about the impact the former captain’s return can have on the dressing room environment. “If they give confidence to Sarfaraz, then it can be beneficial for the team. Since Babar is a new captain and Azhar Ali is also not as experienced as Sarfaraz, so Sarfaraz can give suggestions and guide the new captain.—APP
