The caretaker provincial health minister, Dr. Javed Akram added on this occasion that three days ago, when he visited the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, there was water coming from the drain pipe in the washroom above an operation theater and the surgeries of the patients in all the operation theaters were badly affected. The operation theaters were closed and infection audit ordered. Heart surgery is very sensitive, so the patients coming here cannot give infection instead of health. Immediate infection audit of all operation theaters in Punjab Institute of Cardiology at public and private level. Cardiology hospitals around the world conduct infection audits to ensure safe treatment of patients. We are also conducting an infection audit of all operation theaters of Punjab Institute of Cardiology following the protocols.
On this occasion, the caretaker provincial health minister, Dr. Javed Akram, further said that Chief Minister Punjab Syed Mohsen Naqvi has been brought on board with reference to the infection audit of the operation theaters of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology. Currently, 2 operation theaters of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology have been opened for surgery after the infection audit clearance. 2 operation theaters have been activated in Jinnah Hospital after talking to Co-Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Professor Nandeem Hafeez Butt. We will not open the operation theaters until the infection audit clearance report of the operation theaters of Punjab Institute of Cardiology is negative. Earlier, the operation theaters of PKL have been closed again due to infection.
Chairman Board of Management PIC Dr. Farqad Alamgir said on this occasion that the rains in the last few days had hampered the surgery process in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology due to which they had to face problems. All cardiology operation theaters will be made fully functional.
